Hashmatullah Shahidi finally brought an end to a long wait as he scored his maiden ODI hundred in his 96th match and after 4,644 days in international cricket. The special moment came against India in the third ODI in Chennai.
The Afghanistan captain showed great temperament against a strong Indian bowling attack to reach the milestone. With this knock, he also became the first Afghanistan captain to score an ODI hundred against India.
Only two other Afghan batters, Mohammad Shahzad and Rahmanullah Gurbaz, had scored ODI hundreds against India before him.

Shahidi, who had not made a big impact earlier in the series, played a steady knock of 102 runs from 131 balls. His innings included 13 fours and a six. Azmatullah Omarzai also supported well with a quick 50 off 56 balls.
At one stage, Afghanistan were in a spot of bother at 36 for 4 inside the first 10 overs, putting them under heavy pressure early in the innings.
Indian pacer Prasidh Krishna made full use of the conditions and tore through the top order. He picked up all four early wickets and finished with outstanding figures of 5 for 23.
