Rajasthan Royals (RR) 15-year-old destructive batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is already dreaming much bigger than most batters his age. While many cricketers featuring in the shortest format of the game celebrate reaching a fifty or aim for a century, Vaibhav wants to do something no cricketer has ever achieved in T20 cricket to score 200 runs in a single innings.
The teenage sensation spoke about his ambition during a chat with former England captain Kevin Pietersen on YouTube. His answers showed the fearless attitude that has made him one of the most exciting young talents in Indian cricket.
When Pietersen asked whether he enjoys celebrating half-centuries, Vaibhav gave a straightforward reply.
“No, not that much,” he said.
The discussion then moved towards bigger milestones, and Vaibhav made it clear that even centuries are not enough to satisfy him.
“I want to score 200 in T20s. I want to break his record and score 200,” Vaibhav said, referring to Chris Gayle.
Gayle’s unbeaten 175 for Royal Challengers Bengaluru against Pune Warriors India in the 2013 IPL is still the highest individual score in T20 cricket. More than 10 years later, no batter has crossed the 200-run mark in the format.
But Vaibhav believes he can do it. When Pietersen reminded him that a century would only take him halfway to the target, the youngster remained completely confident.
“If I play all 20 overs in any game, I can break that 175-run record,” he said.
Vaibhav also revealed that he never feels pressure while approaching milestones.
“No, never. I just keep playing my natural game at that point,” he said when asked about batting in the nineties.
That fearless mindset is already becoming his biggest strength. Vaibhav does not believe in slowing down for personal records or changing his batting style. His focus is simple — stay at the crease and keep scoring runs.
And his performances show why he believes so strongly in himself.
The young batter has already played several remarkable innings. He smashed 175 in the Under-19 World Cup final, the highest individual score ever in the title clash. He also scored 190 for Bihar in the 2025-26 Vijay Hazare Trophy, falling just short of a double century.
Then came perhaps the most surprising revelation during the interview.
Asked about the longest innings of his career, Vaibhav spoke about an innings that is not officially recorded where he batted for 50 overs and played an unbeaten 335-run knock.
“I played one of our domestic matches for my state, batted through the full 50 overs and scored 335 not out,” he revealed.
