Afghanistan have announced their squad for the upcoming tour of India, which includes a one-off Test match followed by a three-match ODI series. 31-year-old Hashmatullah Shahidi will lead the team in both formats.

Big names like Rashid Khan, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Mohammad Nabi, and Azmatullah Omarzai have all been included in the squad for this important series against India.

Rashid Khan to feature in ODIs

In the ODI squad, Afghanistan have kept a stable and experienced core. Gurbaz is expected to open the innings along with Ibrahim Zadran. The middle order will likely feature Shahidi, Rahmat Shah, and Darwish Rasooli, who will be responsible for building the innings. The all-rounders Nabi and Omarzai add balance to both batting and bowling departments.

The bowling attack will again revolve around Rashid Khan, with young spinner AM Ghazanfar also included. The pace unit consists of Bilal Sami, Fareed Malik, and Zia-ur-Rahman Sharifi, while Nangyal Kharotai also finds a place in the squad. Qais Ahmad, Saleem Safi, and Bashir Ahmad have been named as reserve players.

Afghanistan names young players in Test squad

For the one-off Test match, Afghanistan have made a few changes to their squad. Players like Abdul Malik, Rahmanullah Zadran, and Sharafudin Ashraf have been added to the red-ball setup. Experienced names such as Rahmat Shah and Gurbaz remain part of the Test team, while Ikram Alikhil and Afsar Zazai will handle wicketkeeping duties.

Notably, Rashid Khan has been left out of the Test squad, with Afghanistan opting for other spin options like Qais Ahmad, Nangyal Kharotai, and Sharafudin Ashraf.

India vs Afghanistan schedule

The tour will begin with a one-off Test in New Chandigarh from June 6 to 10. After that, both teams will play a three-match ODI series in Dharamsala, Lucknow, and Chennai on June 13, 17, and 20. Shahidi will continue to lead Afghanistan across both formats during the tour.
