India speedster Harshit Rana has been ruled out of the Asian Games 2026 and the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan, which will take place later this month. Rana, who was on the road to recovery from an injury that he picked up during India's white-ball assignment in UK.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) named Yash Thakur as his replacement for the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan and the 2026 Asian Games.
What happened to Harshit Rana?
Harshit, who was added to India's T20I squad against Afghanistan on participation subject to fitness, was progressing well during his rehab at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (CoE). He sustained a rectus femoris strain while bowling during a match simulation on September 7 and has subsequently been ruled out.
Who is Yash Thakur?
Yash, the 27-year-old fast bowler from Vidarbha, recently made his T20I debut during India’s tour of Zimbabwe in July. He played two matches and took four wickets. He has featured in 50 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy matches, picking up 81 wickets at an impressive economy rate of 7.04. He also featured for the Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, where he played one match and picked up two wickets.
