Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced a 15-member women’s squad for the cricket competition at the 2026 Asian Games, with veteran all-rounder Chamari Athapaththu set to lead the team.
The squad comes after Sri Lanka finished runners-up in the recent Women’s Asia Cup. The team has a blend of experienced players and young talent and will open its Asian Games campaign against Malaysia on September 18.
Athapaththu will be joined by several players who were part of Sri Lanka’s Asia Cup campaign. However, there are a few notable omissions from the squad.

Vishmi Gunarathne, who played an important role for Sri Lanka in the Women’s T20 World Cup and Asia Cup, has not been included. Nilakshika Silva, who also made valuable contributions in both tournaments, is another player missing from the squad.
Chetana Vimukthi, who returned to the national team for the Asia Cup, has also been left out.
Two young players included
The selectors have given opportunities to two young players. Seventeen-year-old Chamudi Praboda has earned her place after impressing during the Asia Cup, while 19-year-old Rashmika Sewwandi has also been picked. Sewwandi last played a T20I against Pakistan in August.
The squad still has plenty of experience, with Imesha Dulani, Harshitha Samarawickrama, Kaveesha Dilhari, Hasini Perera, Sugandika Kumari and wicketkeeper Anushka Sanjeewani included in the team.
Sri Lanka will now look to build on their strong Asia Cup run as they begin their Asian Games campaign against Malaysia on September 18.
