The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has called a joint meeting with key IPL stakeholders in Mumbai on October 15 to discuss issues from last seasons and start preparations for the 2027 edition of the tournament.
With the Indian Premier League set to enter its 20th season in 2027, the board wants to hear from franchise owners, state associations and broadcasters before planning the landmark edition. The meeting will bring all these groups together to discuss their concerns and share suggestions for the upcoming season.
According to a report by The Indian Express, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia invited the stakeholders through an email, asking them to put forward their views ahead of the meeting.

“As the League approaches its landmark 20th season in 2027, the BCCI proposes to convene a joint meeting of all key stakeholders,” Saikia wrote in the letter, as quoted by the newspaper.
The meeting will focus on lessons from previous seasons, operational challenges and ways to improve planning and coordination for IPL 2027.
BCCI Invites State Associations to Share Their Views
One of the notable aspects of the meeting is the BCCI’s decision to involve state associations alongside franchise representatives and broadcasters.
In previous years, discussions about the upcoming IPL season largely involved franchise representatives. This time, the board has also sought input from the associations responsible for hosting matches and managing venues.
The state associations play an important role in organising matches, handling stadium operations and ensuring that arrangements run smoothly on match days.
“The State Associations play a central role in the successful staging of the League, and your perspective on matters of hosting, venue operations and match-day co-ordination will be of great value to these deliberations,” the letter stated.
The board wants to use the meeting to identify problems faced during previous editions and find ways to make the tournament run more smoothly.
BCCI Plans Grand Celebrations for IPL’s 20th Season
The 2027 edition will mark 20 years of the IPL, which began in 2008 and has grown into one of the biggest T20 leagues in the world.
The BCCI is planning to mark the occasion on a grand scale. A presentation outlining the proposed celebrations was also made at the board’s annual general meeting in Mumbai last month.
The October 15 meeting will give the board an opportunity to gather feedback from the people involved in organising and running the tournament before plans for the landmark season take shape.
Will the BCCI Review the IPL Impact Player Rule?
The Impact Player rule is another issue that could come under discussion in the coming weeks.
Introduced in the IPL in 2023, the rule allows teams to substitute a player during a match, giving them greater flexibility with their playing combinations. However, it has also drawn criticism from several players and coaches, with concerns about its effect on all-rounders and the balance between bat and ball.
Several prominent figures in Indian cricket have questioned whether the rule should continue. The BCCI is expected to consider the feedback before making a decision on its future.
A call on the Impact Player rule could be made before the retention deadline for the next mini-auction is announced. The auction is expected to take place in the last week of December, although the schedule remains subject to official confirmation.
