Asia Cup 2026 Trophy Row: BCCI Reveals Mohsin Naqvi’s Reaction After India’s Refusal

India’s historic Women’s Asia Cup 2026 triumph was overshadowed by another controversy involving Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chief Mohsin Naqvi.

After defeating Sri Lanka by 72 runs in the final in Dubai, the Indian women’s team did not attend the trophy presentation ceremony, refusing to accept the silverware from Naqvi.

The decision was taken despite India winning the tournament for a record-extending eighth time. Naqvi, who is also the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, remained on the podium as the Indian players did not come forward to receive the trophy.

BCCI Had Already Informed ACC

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that the decision was not a last-minute development.

According to Saikia, the ACC had been informed before the final that India would not participate in the trophy presentation if Naqvi handed over the silverware.

The stance was linked to the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan following the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack, as well as the position taken by the Indian men’s team during the previous Asia Cup.

What Was Mohsin Naqvi’s Reaction?

BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla has now revealed how Naqvi responded after India decided not to accept the trophy from him.

Shukla said the decision was a collective one within the BCCI and that Naqvi raised no objection to the Indian team’s stance.

“We discussed the matter among ourselves and decided that we would not accept it. It was our collective decision. He also did not raise any objection to it,” Shukla said.

He added that the Indian team had been informed about the decision and Naqvi presented the trophy to whoever was required before leaving the venue.

BCCI Official’s Interaction With Naqvi Explained

Another talking point from the final was a visible interaction between BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia and Naqvi during the match.

The interaction sparked questions over whether the BCCI’s stance had softened. However, Shukla dismissed the speculation, describing it as a routine professional interaction.

According to Shukla, officials from different boards naturally interact when they are present at the same venue, and the meeting should not be interpreted as a change in BCCI’s position.

Despite the controversy surrounding the presentation ceremony, India’s win was celebrated before their next assignment in the Asian Games 2026.
