Bank Holidays September 2026: Banks in several states across India will remain closed for three or four consecutive days this month. This is due to the second Saturday, Sunday and festival holidays falling together. Customers in some states will see a four-day bank holiday from September 12 to September 15, while banks in five other states will remain closed for three consecutive days.

The upcoming holidays include the second Saturday of the month, Sunday, Ganesh Chaturthi and Nuakhai. While bank branches will remain closed on these days, essential banking services will continue to be available through digital and other channels.

Are Banks Open Today?

Banks are not open today as it is the second Saturday of the month. Notably, all scheduled and non-scheduled banks observe holidays on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month. This Saturday holiday will be followed by Sunday, September 13, leading to consecutive bank closures in several states.

Banks To Remain Closed For Four Days

Banks in Goa and Odisha will remain closed for four consecutive days from September 12 to September 15.

The closures are as follows:
September 12, Saturday: Second Saturday bank holiday
September 13, Sunday: Weekly holiday
September 14, Monday: Ganesh Chaturthi
September 15, Tuesday: Nuakhai and the second day of Ganesh Chaturthi

Similarly, banks in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh will have three consecutive holidays from September 12 to September 14. Banks in Belapur, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Nagpur, Panaji and Vijayawada will also remain closed on Monday.

Upcoming Bank Holidays

In September, private and public sector banks are scheduled to remain closed for 16 days, including regular weekend holidays. Other bank holidays during the month will be observed for occasions including Samvatsari, Unitarian Anniversary Day and Karma Puja.

Nationwide Bank Strike

Earlier on Friday, bank employees and officers across the country observed a one-day nationwide strike leading to closure of banks. The strike was called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) to demand the implementation of a five-day banking week.
