Russia-Ukraine War: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Friday proposed a temporary ceasefire ahead of a visit by US envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff to Moscow and Kyiv. The envoys are scheduled to arrive in Moscow on Saturday and Kyiv on Sunday to discuss a possible peace deal aimed at bringing an end to the war.
In a post on Telegram, Zelensky confirmed the visit, noting that Ukrainian diplomats had been conducting a meeting to prepare for the arrival and ensure safe airspace operations for the delegation.
"There will be no air strikes from our side, and Russia must mirror this by ensuring silence without its air strikes for the time needed to hold these negotiations and resolve the logistical issues associated with this American visit," Zelensky said.

He emphasised that Ukraine cares about the safety of the American envoys and "not Russia," adding that Kyiv wants "real options" to bring an end to the four-and-a-half-year war.
Russia Intensifies Air Strikes
The ceasefire proposal comes as Russia has increased daytime air raids on Kyiv and other cities across Ukraine. On Friday, a midday strike hit Ukraine's intelligence service headquarters, which Zelensky said targeted the intelligence chief's office.
This followed overnight attacks in Odesa that killed one person and injured at least five others, including a child, while separate strikes elsewhere claimed the lives of two police officers in Dnipro.
Meanwhile, a US official confirmed that Trump's envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, will visit Moscow and Kyiv. This will be their first trip to the Ukrainian capital to negotiate a settlement.
"We'll see what proposals Steve and Jared have and what Moscow will say to them," Zelensky wrote.
