The military stanoff between Iran and US is on the verge of significant escalation. Reports indicate that the US is shifting a vast majority of its long-range missile stockpile to operational bases targeting Iran.
According to the Bloomberg reports, the US is preparing to commit approximately 82 per cent of its global JASSM-ER (Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile–Extended Range) inventory to the conflict. This move would leave only about 425 of these high-tech missiles available for other potential theaters worldwide.
The next steps in the US military campaign against Iran will commit nearly its entire inventory of stealthy JASSM-ER cruise missiles, drawing them from stockpiles devoted to other regions. https://t.co/ZS2cdP1932

The 48-Hour Countdown
This massive logistical shift follows a series of direct warnings from US President Donald Trump. After initially giving Tehran ten days to negotiate a peace deal or reopen the Strait of Hormuz, the President issued a final 48-hour ultimatum on Truth Social late Saturday.
"Time is running out - 48 hours before all Hell will reign down on them," Trump wrote, reiterating his demand for a deal or the immediate opening of the strategic waterway.
Understanding JASSM-ER Weapon System
The JASSM-ER or Joint Air-to-Surface Missile is a critical component of US air superiority, designed by Lockheed Martin to strike high-value, well-defended targets while keeping aircrews safe from enemy air defenses. It was designed to hit target at safer distances to avoid the air defence of enemies.
Key Specifications:
Cost: USD 1.5 million per unit.
Range: Exceeds 500 nautical miles (roughly 930 km).
Lethality: Equipped with a 1,000-pound penetrating blast-fragmentation warhead.
Compatibility: Integrated with various platforms, including F-15E and F-16 fighter jets, as well as B-1B, B-2 and B-52H bombers.
Current Usage And Stockpile Strain
The intensity of the six-week-old war has already put a strain on US munitions. Sources familiar with the matter told Bloomberg that:
Iran Theater: Over 1,000 JASSM-ER missiles have been deployed in the first month of the conflict.
Other Operations: US forces also utilised 47 of these missiles during a recent raid targeting Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
While committing 82 per cent of the inventory to the region signals a readiness for a massive aerial campaign, officials noted that moving the missiles to the theater does not guarantee that the entire stock will be expended. However, the deployment underscores the administration's preparation for a "maximum pressure" military phase if the 48-hour deadline passes without a diplomatic breakthrough.
