A video showing the arrest of an Indian student in the United Kingdom over alleged online grooming has gone viral on social media, triggering widespread debate and concern both in India and abroad. The incident reportedly took place in Coventry, England, where the student had been living in university accommodation for the past three months.

The man, identified in online posts as Gureet Jeetesh, was detained following allegations that he was communicating online with individuals he believed to be underage girls. UK police authorities have not yet released an official public statement confirming the charges or detailing the sequence of events shown in the viral footage.

What Viral Video Shows

The widely circulated video captures a tense confrontation at a student residence in the Red Lane area of Coventry. In the footage, the man is seen apologising repeatedly and pleading for a warning as people around him accuse him of engaging in inappropriate online conversations with a minor. Police officers are visible outside the building before he is taken into custody.

Voices heard in the clip allege that the communication involved a decoy profile posing as a 14-year-old, a tactic commonly used in online grooming investigations. The video ends amid shouting from bystanders as police escort the man away.

Social media users have amplified the clip across platforms such as X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram, with some posts claiming that the student attempted to invoke his nationality during the confrontation. These claims remain unverified, and there is no confirmation that such remarks were made or had any bearing on police action.

Legal Framework In UK

UK authorities have not confirmed whether formal charges have been filed. Under British law, arrests in cases involving alleged online grooming are typically followed by detailed digital forensic analysis, including examination of phones, social media accounts and messaging platforms, before prosecutors decide on charges.
