US-Iran Ceasefire Talks: Ahead of the ceasefire talks in Islamabad, a US official on Saturday denied reports suggesting that Washington has agreed to release the frozen assets of Iran held in Qatar and other foreign banks. Earlier while talking to the news agency Reuters, a senior Iranian source claimed that the Trump administration had agreed to unfreeze the assets. The Iranian source, who declined to be named considering the sensitivity of the issue, claimed that America had agreed to release USD 6 billion of frozen funds.

The source asserted that this marks a significant development ahead of the talks, adding that the assets were being released to ensure a safe passage of the ships through the Strait of Hormuz. However, the US has now clarified that it has not planned to unfreeze the assets, putting a full stop to the speculations.
