US-Iran War: The Iranian attack on the US Embassy in Saudi Arabia's Riyadh last month is likely to have caused heavier damage than initially revealed, reported the Wall Street Journal on Friday. As per the report, the Saudi government claimed that the drone attack led to minor damage; however, senior US officials asserted that the scale was larger than presented. The report also suggested that hundreds of individuals could have been killed if the attack happened in daytime.

The current and former US officials stated that the first drone crashed into the US embassy compound; however, a second drone entered into the premises through the hole created by the first strike and exploded. The second strike also penetrated a secure area where hundreds of employees work during the day hours. "If it had occurred during working hours, it could have been a mass-casualty event," one of the official was quoted as saying by the WSJ.

Bernard Hudson, a former CIA counterterrorism chief, stated that the strike could have done more damage than revealed in the public domain. "There’s been a complete blackout on the actual amount of damage done to these places. That feeds suspicions that a lot more damage may have actually happened," he told the WSJ.

“It (the Iranian regime) was able to produce an indigenously made weapon, fire it across hundreds of miles, and hit the embassy of their top opponent, which indicates they could have targeted anything in the city," Hudson added. However, in a fresh development, the IRGC on Saturday claimed that the attack on the US embassy was carried out by the Israeli forces.

While citing the WSJ report, it stated that the attack was "absolutely unrelated" to the Iranian forces, adding that it was the strategy of Israel. The war between Iran and the joint forces of Israel and the US has already entered its fifth week, with no signs of immediate peace in the region.
