As tensions in the Middle East continue to rise, a recent report made some significant claims, saying that the US military advisors excluded Donald Trump from the command room during the search for a US airman downed in Iran. The shocking revelations were made in a report published by the Wall Street Journal, citing a senior administration official.

The report mentioned that Donald Trump was excluded during the planning stage, as the military officials feared that the President would lose his temper, failing the mission. The report says that Trump spent hours shouting at his aides in an almost empty West Wing after the American fighter jet was downed by Tehran.

He feared that the current situation could soon turn to something as bad as the 1979 Iranian hostage crisis. “If you look at what happened with Jimmy Carter… it cost them the election,” Trump privately fretted, according to the Wall Street Journal, which quoted an official as saying.

Why Was Trump Excluded?

As per the report, the military authorities wanted to lower the risk of impulsive interference. Therefore, the aides opted to provide the commander in chief with updates only at “meaningful moments,” rather than the minute-by-minute tactical feeds being monitored by the National Security Council.

It is important to note that the downed airman was extracted during the 24-hour difficult time on the Easter Weekend. But it faced the same "blood and sand" problems that have long plagued US operations there.

The detailed report also revealed that the entire planning and conduct of the operation was carried out with the presence of US Vice President JD Vance and Chief of Staff Susie Wiles as they oversaw and monitored the progress from remote locations.

Technical difficulties almost destroyed the mission when rescue aircraft became momentarily stuck in the Iranian desert sand. Simultaneously, US forces engaged in elaborate maneuvers to distract Iranian military units while the downed airman moved towards the extraction point. The second airman was successfully recovered late Saturday night.

What Happened In West Wing

According to the report, the relief in the West Wing was short-lived. At about 2:00 am (local time) Donald Trump had retired, only to wake six hours later and go on a social media rant. They delivered a profanity-laced ultimatum on social media, threatening to leave Iran “living in Hell” unless the Strait of Hormuz was reopened.

Despite his antagonistic public rhetoric and threats to “destroy Iranian civilisation,” the report said that Trump remained the primary obstacle to a full-scale ground invasion. Military planners have reportedly presented options for the seizure of Kharg Island, the strategic hub for 90 per cent of Iran’s oil exports.

But Trump alleged he did not give a green signal to the plan. He cited a deep-seated fear of American casualties and said that his team thought that the American military would be “sitting ducks” on the island. The private proclamation was a stark contrast to the threats Trump frequently delivers online.
