Amid the ongoing war with Iran, US President Donald Trump has reiterated that he wanted to take over Cuba, a communist-led Caribbean island. His remarks came on Monday after Cuba plunged into darkness following a blackout due to disruptions in energy supply from the US. While talking to the reporters at the White House, the US president claimed that Cuba is a weakened nation, adding that he could either take control of the island or "free it".
Trump, in his address, reiterated that he would be "honoured" to take Cuba in "some form", adding that the nation is weakened. "I do believe I'll be having the honor of taking Cuba. I think that's a big honour. Taking Cuba in some form," Trump stated. "Whether I free it, take it- think I could do anything I want with it, you want to know the truth. They're a very weakened nation right now," he added.

Why Trump Wants Cuba?
- Cuba, for the past several decades, has been under communist rule, mostly opposing the foreign policies of the US. Trump has expressed his desire to take over the island, possibly to reduce the influence of Russia and China in the region.
Earlier last week, the Cuban government confirmed that it was in talks with the Trump administration for a possible solution. The US president asserted that a deal is likely to be signed once the war with Iran is over. "I think we will pretty soon either make a deal or do whatever we have to do," he told the reporters. As per the reports, removing Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel is a major US objective in the talks.
- The Trump administration believes that with the energy shortage due to the recent fall of the Venezuelan government, the communist government is weaker than ever, which could lead to a change in the government.
