United States President Donald Trump on Tuesday confirmed that peace talks with Iran could resume in Pakistan over the next two days.

The latest development comes days after the US delegation-led by Vice President JD Vance and Iranian delegation-led by Speaker Ghalibaf faced a deadlock over Tehran's nuclear program while discussing an agreement to end the conflict and reach a permanent ceasefire.

While talking to the New York Post, the US President said, "You should stay there, really, because something could be happening over the next two days, and we're more inclined to go there."

Trump again heaped praises on Pakistan's Army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, saying that he was doing a "great job" on the talks.

"He's fantastic, and therefore it's more likely that we go back there," Trump said. US and Iran had reached a temporary truce for two weeks on April 8.

Pakistan-mediated truce stipulated an immediate ceasefire and opening of the Strait of Hormuz. However, a confusion over the inclusion of a halt on Lebanon strike soon surfaced. Israel continued to pound Lebanese territories, targeting Hezbollah.

Meanwhile, the US and Iranian delegations flew to Islamabad for high stake talks. After a 21-hour marathon negotiation, the two sides failed to reach consensus on ending the war and Vance, subsequently returned to Washington, warning the development to be an "even more bad news" for Iran.

What followed was a major escalation as Trump ordered the US Navy to initiate a naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz from April 13. He also ordered to "seek and interdict" any vessel which pays toll to Iran for Hormuz transit.

On April 13, the blockade was reportedly implemented, however, its effectiveness was contested as several ships, including those US sanctioned and China flagged, were reported to have passed through the Strait.
