United States President Donald Trump on Wednesday made a huge claim, saying that Iran has asked Washington for a ceasefire.
Trump said that the US will consider the proposal only when the Hormuz Strait is open, free, and clear.
In a post on Truth Social, the US President said, "Iran’s New Regime President, much less Radicalised and far more intelligent than his predecessors, has just asked the United States of America for a CEASEFIRE! We will consider when the Hormuz Strait is open, free, and clear."
The United States President further extended a "stone age” warning to Iran, indicating that until a ceasefire is conceived, attacks would continue.
"Until then, we are blasting Iran into oblivion or, as they say, back to the Stone Ages!!!" Trump said.
Iran rejects ceasefire talks
Soon after Trump’s bold claim, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) rejected ceasefire talks and said the Strait of Hormuz would remain open.
According to a report by Al Jazeera, the IRGC has said that the Strait will not be opened by the 'ridiculous displays of the US President.'
"The Strait of Hormuz is firmly and dominantly under control and will not be opened to the enemies of this nation by the ridiculous displays of the US President," the IRGC was quoted by Al Jazeera.
Iran, Oman to decide Hormuz' future: Araghchi
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also denied ceasefire talks with the US. In an interview with Al Jazeera, Araghchi said, "I receive messages from Witkoff directly, as before, and this does not mean that we are in negotiations".
"There is no truth to the claim of negotiations with any party in Iran. All messages are conveyed through the Foreign Ministry or received by it, and there are communications between security agencies," he added.
On Hormuz, he said the water falls under the territorial control of Iran and Oman and hence they would decide its future.
