At least 50 people died after two high-speed trains collided in central Spain on Wednesday. Spain's state-owned rail system operator ADIF stated that the collision took place on Wednesday morning in Toledo province. In a post on X, Adif said that the train traffic on the Madrid-Andalusia high-speed rail line was disrupted due to the accident.

According to Adif, a Renfe train and an Iryo train collided between Mora and Orgaz and Urda, at PK 118, both covering the Madrid-Sevilla route. ABC, a Spanish daily, cited Civil Protection, stating that at least 46 passengers died in the accident.

Speaking about the incident, Manuel Galan, the mayor of Urda near the central city of Toledo, told Spanish state broadcaster TVE that he had been asked by emergency services to prepare a sports hall to ‌accommodate the injured.

Spanish President Pedro Sanchez expressed shock over the accident, adding that emergency services are working on the ground to assist the affected.
