India-Italy friendship is once again in the spotlight after Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a five-nation tour, posted pictures from his meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on his X and Instagram handles on Wednesday. The Prime Minister is currently in Italy's capital, Rome, and will be holding talks with the Italian PM and President Sergio Mattarellalater in the day.

"Upon landing in Rome, had the opportunity to meet Prime Minister Meloni over dinner followed by a visit to the iconic Colosseum. We exchanged perspectives on a wide range of subjects. Looking forward to our talks today, where we will continue the conversation on how to boost the India-Italy friendship," PM Modi posted on X.

Earlier, in a post on X, Giorgia Meloni welcomed PM Modi to Rome with a photo at the historic Colosseum. "Welcome to Rome, my friend," the Italian prime minister wrote in her post.

India-Italy Ties

PM Modi's visit to Italy has taken place amid rapid strengthening of relations between India and Italy, as both countries are actively implementing the Joint Strategic Action Plan 2025–2029. The action plan involves several sectors, including trade, investment, defence, clean energy, science and technology, and innovation.

Earlier in June 2024, Prime Minister Modi visited Italy to participate in the G7 Summit. Ahead of his Italy visit, the prime minister attended the third India-Nordic Summit and participated in meetings aimed at strengthening India's relations with the Nordic countries.
