US Midterm Election Results Live Updates: The voting for the US Midterm Elections got underway today as America races to decide who controls Congress. Voting began early (local time) in Vermont, New York and other East Coast states, with others joining later. Visuals from the polling stations showed people lining up at polling centres to cast their vote. All 435 seats in the House of Representatives and 35 seats in the Senate are up for grabs. Voting also began to elect Governors in 36 states.

Republicans currently hold narrow majorities in both chambers (House of Representatives and Senate). Democrats are hoping to take control of Congress and limit Trump's powers.

Opinion polls and election projections point towards a strong performance by Democrats in the House. The Senate race remains competitive, with Republicans having a better chance of retaining control. The elections are being seen as a test of Trump's popularity and his policies on the economy, immigration and foreign affairs.

US Midterm Elections 2026 LIVE Updates: Prediction Markets Face US Midterms Test As Election Bets Soar

With more than USD 1.48 billion wagered on Tuesday's US midterm elections, prediction markets such as Kalshi and Polymarket are facing their biggest test yet of how reliably they can forecast political races amid growing scrutiny of their businesses, Reuters reported.

The platforms rose to prominence ‌in 2024 when they bucked traditional opinion polls in signaling that Donald Trump would win the presidency, and have since amassed a global following among media outlets and investors.
On Monday, prediction market prices aggregated by analytics firm BetInt implied Democrats had a 95% chance of taking the House of Representatives and a 76% chance of taking the Senate.

Though the markets tout high accuracy rates in providing betting odds, some high-profile misses during the US primaries and in Brazil's presidential election have shown they are fallible. If the midterm results diverge sharply from prediction-market odds, the industry’s reputation could suffer, analysts say, especially given the record sums being wagered for such US election betting.

US Midterm Elections LIVE: Major Voting Disruption In Florida As Barcode Glitch Delays Polling

Voting was delayed for 20 minutes at voting sites across Broward County as polls opened because a new safety feature malfunctioned, officials said. During a news conference, Supervisor of Elections Joe Scott apologized to voters who had to wait and said some left before they were able to vote. The problem was solved by 7:20 a.m., and Scott encouraged those who left to return. He did not have an estimate of how many voters left.

Scott said the state’s late redistricting meant some people within the same precinct voted on different ballots, and the new bar code feature was meant to ensure poll workers did not give people the wrong one.

Some people received an error message that they were voting on the wrong ballot, but they were not, Scott said.
