US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor has strongly rejected reports suggesting he is being considered for senior roles in President Donald Trump's administration, including White House chief of staff and secretary of state.

Dismissing the speculation as baseless, Gor said he has no interest in any other position and reaffirmed his support for Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

In a statement to The Washington Sun, Gor said, "This story is complete and total bullshit," before praising Rubio's performance as secretary of state.

"Secretary Marco Rubio has proven to be the most qualified, accomplished and greatest secretary of state in history. He is irreplaceable and a dear friend who I have the joy of working with every day as US ambassador to India, a true honour of a lifetime. I have zero interest in any other role."

Gor is a former senior White House aide and close associate of Trump and currently serves as the US Ambassador to India and Special Envoy for South and Central Asia.

What Reports Said

According to the Washington Sun report, Gor's name had surfaced in presidential circles for a more prominent assignment in the second half of Trump's term.

The report further said some officials believe Gor wants a more visible role in the administration. A US official told the Washington Sun that he wanted a more forward-facing role.

The roles reportedly under discussion include White House chief of staff, currently held by Susie Wiles, and secretary of state, which would mean replacing Rubio. Gor has also been linked to other senior State Department posts, including deputy secretary, currently held by Chris Landau.

The report also claimed that some State Department officials and Republican figures believe Rubio could eventually leave the administration to prepare for a possible presidential run in 2028 or 2032. However, there has been no public confirmation of such plans, and neither Rubio nor Wiles has indicated any intention to step down.
