Israel-Iran War: Amid the ongoing middle east crisis, Iran has reportedly ended its military campaign against Israel while issuing a warning. According to reports from Iranian state media, Iran’s Joint Military Command has announced the end of its current military operations against Israel and warned of more severe attacks if Israel continues its attacks in Lebanon.
The escalation has raised concerns that the Middle East could be pushed back toward full-scale war.
The Joint Command said that if Israel or its supporters carried out any further "aggression and hostile acts," including in southern Lebanon, then "much more severe and crushing measures than before will follow."
The Middle East conflict started following the killing of 86-year-old Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in joint military strikes by the US and Israel, after which Iran, in its retaliation, targeted Israeli and US assets in several Gulf countries and Israel, causing disruption in the waterway and affecting international energy markets and global economic stability since February 28.
The war has reportedly shaken the global economy, pushed energy prices higher worldwide, and increased the cost of essentials, including food. Officials have so far been unable to turn the April ceasefire into a lasting peace agreement.
Here are recent developments on Iran-Israel war
- Israel conducted strikes early on Monday targeting military sites in western and central Iran, just hours after Iran fired a series of missiles at Israeli targets in retaliation for an earlier attack on the southern suburbs of Beirut. The Israeli strikes came despite reports that US President Donald Trump had urged Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to avoid further escalation.
- The Israeli military at dawn in Iran issued a short statement as the strikes began, “A short while ago, the Israeli Air Force struck military targets belonging to the Iranian terror regime in western and central Iran.” It did not elaborate.
- Iranian state television reported explosions in Isfahan, Karaj, Tabriz, and Tehran, without offering additional clarification. A witness in Tehran told the Associated Press they heard at least one large blast west of the capital.
- In response, Iran launched multiple waves of attacks on Israel on Monday, while Israel carried out strikes in central and western Iran. Explosions were reported in Tehran, though there were no immediate confirmations of casualties.
- Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) said it launched a missile strike on a petrochemical facility in the northern Israeli city of Haifa in retaliation for an Israeli strike on the Karun petrochemical plant in Mahshahr, in Iran’s southwestern Khuzestan province.
- Yemen’s Iran-aligned Houthi rebels also reportedly fired toward Israel and warned they would target Israeli-affiliated vessels in the Red Sea.
- The development comes at a time when Trump told a Fox News Channel reporter that he wanted Iran to stop firing missiles and return to negotiations. He also said that Israel’s strikes in Lebanon earlier on Sunday were not coordinated with the United States and added, “I’m not happy about it.”
- He called on both Israel and Iran to stop “shooting,” after the two sides reportedly attacked each other’s territory for the first time since a fragile ceasefire took effect in April. Trump later suggested that Israel and Iran were “looking to do an immediate ceasefire.”
-Israel said it was targeting Hezbollah infrastructure after the Iran-backed Lebanese group allegedly fired rockets into northern Israel.
