Iran has issued a stark warning to both the US and Israel that any attack on civilian areas within Iranian borders will be considered "legitimate targets" and that Iranian armed forces (IRGC) will target the residences of the US and Israeli military and political officials for retaliation.

Ebrahim Zolfaghari (Spokesman for Iran's Joint Military Command) stated that the Iranian government has taken this action in direct retaliation for the aerial strikes from both Israeli and US Military forces against Iranian residential neighbourhoods.

“In light of the malicious actions and terrorism of the American-Zionist enemies, and their targeting of residential homes of the Iranian people in various cities, the armed forces of the Islamic Republic, in a retaliatory move, will target the residences of the American-Zionist officials, commanders and politicians in the region,” he said in a video statement.

In addition, this declaration has come amid many diplomatic negotiations taking place between both countries, such as American President Donald Trump saying that he believes he may be close to finalizing an agreement with Iran and indicating that he may be sending thousands of troops to either reopen the Strait of Hormuz or strike Kharg Island, which is where 90 per cent of all crude oil exports from Iran occur.

Iran's Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf accused the US of escalating its presumed plans for a ground offensive against Iran despite continually demonstrating that it is negotiating for an agreement, while at the same time, US Military forces are continuing to send Iranian military aircraft to the region.

The exchange of missiles between Iran and Israel continued on Monday, with Iranian missiles being sent at a Kuwaiti desalination plant. This missile attack was in retaliation for Iranian electricity facilities being struck by Israel over the weekend and causing blackouts throughout the Iranian capital.

The continued hostilities in the region are having a critical impact on the world economy. In many parts of Asia, there are fuel shortages; stock markets are very volatile; and the price of oil is continuing to rise, which has resulted in the price of crude oil in the US exceeding USD 100 and the price of Brent crude oil at about USD 117.
