Working in the news industry often means dealing with unpredictable and exhausting hours. Journalists routinely face early morning starts, late-night story chasing, and relentless deadlines. Viewers recently got a very real look at this fatigue when "Good Morning Memphis" anchor Dominique Dillon appeared to fall asleep during a live television broadcast, Metro reported.
Awkard on air moment
The incident occurred right after reporter Sheila O'Connor completed a live segment about a local charity run for St. Jude. When the control room switched the camera back to the studio, Dillon was clearly not expecting to be on air so soon. She was seen holding her head in her hand with her eyes closed, taking a brief rest.

Left on screen, O’Connor held an awkward smile while staring ahead, waiting for the team behind the scenes to fix the error. Moments later, the station cut to a commercial break to clear up the confusion.
Fans defend the news anchor
Although the mistake was broadcast live to the whole city, viewers instantly rallied around Dillon. Social media was quickly filled with messages of support and understanding rather than harsh criticism. They argued how journalists work in tough Schedules. Viewers pointed out that early morning TV shifts are extremely demanding on the body. This, in this case, seem a new turn on social media trends. Usually, if an anchor does any unusual activity, social media users are quick to point out the issue with a screengrab.
What social media users say
Social media users are citing parenting life could be the major reason for this "blunder". According to Metro, Dillon is a mother of two small children, a baby and a toddler, which makes balancing full-time reporting even harder.
Some fans placed the blame on the show's producer and director, arguing that switching to her camera while she wasn't ready was a technical error.
Laughing off the mistake
Despite the potential embarrassment of the moment, Dillon handled the situation with great humor and grace. Following the show, her co-anchor, Ernie Freeman, posted a photo on Facebook showing Dillon jokingly pretending to sleep at her desk once again.
"Now that The Big Show is over, it’s time for Dominique Dillon to catch another nap," Freeman wrote in his caption. Dillon teased back in the comments, "Couldn’t even give me a nudge."
By laughing at herself, Dillon turned a live television blunder into a relatable, human moment that won over even more fans.
