- US VP JD Vance revealed favorite Indian, Pakistani people.
- Named wife as Indian, Field Marshal Asim Munir as Pakistani.
- Expressed optimism for US-Iran diplomatic solution in Switzerland.
US Vice President JD Vance arrived in Switzerland on Sunday, June 21, to participate in the diplomatic talks with Iran. During the talks, Vance revealed the names of his two 'favourite' Indian and Pakistani people.
During the US-Iran talks in Switzerland, Vance said, "I have two very, very important people in my life - an Indian and a Pakistani. The Indian is my wife, and the Pakistani is Field Marshal Asim Munir."
Vance Optimistic Over US-Iran Deal
Referencing an interim agreement signed electronically earlier this week, the US Vice President said Washington was grateful to have found a diplomatic solution to the months-long conflict with Iran. He said that it remains to be seen how much both nations can 'accomplish' from this point.
Vance said, "The question before us now is how much more can we accomplish together? Can we turn over a new leaf? Can we change relations in the Middle East permanently, or do we go back to doing things the old way, which is not our preference, but is certainly very much something that can happen?"
US-Iran Talks Underway In Switzerland
His remarks came as US and Iranian officials began their first round of negotiations at a luxury resort in Switzerland. The high-stakes talks are being conducted in the presence of international mediators, including delegations from Pakistan and Qatar.
Hailing the meeting with Iran as "historic," Vance said, "We look forward to transforming the Middle East instability through diplomacy and promoting peace, as well as free flow of oil."
Vance said that the United States and Iran had never previously engaged in such a high-level meeting. He emphasised that the objective of the submission is to 'turn over a new leaf to transform our relationship with the people of Iran, and to extend an outstretched hand'.
US Vice President Vance and senior Iranian officials arrived in Switzerland on Sunday to begin negotiations over Tehran's nuclear program, build out the fragile interim deal to end hostilities and keep the critical Strait of Hormuz open.
Vance is leading an American delegation that includes Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner. According to Iranian state television, Tehran's team includes Parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and officials from the nation's central bank and oil ministry.
