'Iran Tried To Kill One Of My Sons': Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu Makes Massive Claim Against Tehran

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday made a massive claim against Iran, alleging that Tehran attempted to assassinate one of his sons.

In a phone interview with Israel's Channel 14, Netanyahu said, "Something incredible happened: Iran targeted one of my sons. Iran tried to kill one of my sons."

However, he did not provide specific details on how the alleged assassination was attempted or when the attempt was made. It also remained unclear which of his sons, Avner or Yair, was targeted in the supposed attempt.

Shin Bet Security

The Israeli Prime Minister's remarks came during a discussion regarding reports that Israel's domestic security agency, Shin Bet, had refused to provide a security detail for Gadi Eisenkot, the former army chief who is running a close race with Netanyahu ahead of the upcoming elections.

Addressing the issue, Netanyahu said, "I spoke with the Shin Bet chief and asked him to provide appropriate security to any prime ministerial candidate."

Regarding an agreement reached with Shin Bet to provide security for his wife and sons for at least five years, even if he loses the elections, he added, "Therefore, the security they get is not a luxury. Without it, they could succeed [in killing my son.] People need to show some restraint, especially during an election campaign."

Family Background

Netanyahu has two sons and a daughter. His elder son, Yair, has spent a long time in Miami since 2024 under Shin Bet protection, while his younger son, Avner, has lived most of his life in Israel, the report added.

Yair's stay in the US under security has attracted controversy in Israel over taxpayer costs, while also raising safety concerns among some South Florida residents who fear his presence could make the area a target for attacks by Israel's enemies.
