As Iran inches close to appoint its next Supreme Leader after the killing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the United States is reportedly hatching a new plot to oust the Islamic rule in the West Asian nation. US President is said to be in contact with the Iranian militias which seek to topple the current regime.

According to US officials, cited by The Wall Street Journal, Trump is mulling if the US would provide weapons, training and intelligence support to the rebel groups. Corroborating the same claims, CNN reported that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) of the US was planning to arm the Kurdish forces, which allegedly plan to attack Iran's security forces.

But it is unclear how successful the Iranian Kurdish groups would be in their fight inside Iran. The groups fighters have varying degrees of experience on the battlefield. A source cited by CNN said the plan would be for Kurdish armed forces to take on Iranian security forces to make it easier for an uprising of unarmed Iranians in the country's cities.
