Iran's Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has rejected proposals pushed by two countries to end hostilities or reach a possible ceasefire with the United States and Israel.

According to a senior Iranian official cited by news agency Reuters, Khamenei is firm on taking revenge as his position against the US and Israel in his first foreign policy session was "very tough and serious".

The official, however, did not clarify if Khamenei attended the sessions in person.

Mojtaba was appointed as the Supreme Leader of Iran on March 8 after the initial strikes by the US and Israel on February 28, which assassinated his predecessor and father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Motjaba vowed revenge in first statement

In his first statement since his appointment, he had vowed to avenge those killed in the war and said that Tehran would obtain compensation from the "enemy" (US and Israel).

He added that if the enemy refuses, Iran will take from its assets or destroy them to the same extent.

"A limited amount of this revenge has so far taken concrete form, but until it is fully achieved, this case will remain among our priorities," he had said.

However, he didn't appear in person to deliver his first statement. Instead, it was read out by an anchor of the state TV.

In his statement, he had said that Iran will never retreat and will resist with "full force", adding that Tehran will avenge not just Ayatollah Ali Khamenei but every "martyr" who lost their life in the war.
