Iran War: Amid the ongoing war with the joint forces of the US and Israel, Iran is reportedly dealing with a power tussle between the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the inner circle of the Supreme Leader. As per multiple reports, the IRGC has taken control over the key power centres of the country and has sidelined President Masoud Pezeshkian. It has blocked presidential appointments and imposed restrictions on meeting the current Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, reported Iran International.

The reports suggest that IRGC chief commander Ahmad Vahidi objected when the president tried to appoint a new intelligence minister. According to Fox News, Vahidi has stated that such appointments should only be made under the supervision of the IRGC considering the current situation. The president usually appoints the intelligence minister after obtaining permission from the supreme leader. However, the absence of Khamenei from the active decision-making has given the space to the armed forces.

Where Is Mojtaba Khamenei?

While the war-torn nation has been dealing with an internal crisis, its supreme leader has not made any public appearance since taking over the office. As per the US officials, Khamenei has been "disfigured" and is incapable of taking crucial decisions, reported the Financial Express. However, Iranian officials, on several occasions, have rejected such reports, adding that the supreme leader will make a public appearance at the right time.

However, the reports also suggested that the IRGC has restricted access to Khamenei, creating a communication gap between him and the government officials. As per Fox News and Iran International, a power vacuum has developed in Tehran following the killing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. While his son has taken over the top office, the major decisions are being taken by the IRGC.

President Masoud Pezeshkian was not allowed to meet the supreme leader despite seeking an urgent meeting in the past few days, reported Iran International, citing sources.
