No information about the reason for fire

The official refrained from elaborating on what led to the fire or whether the vessel had suffered an attack.

This came after nearly three weeks after an Indian-flagged commercial vessel had come under attack off the coast of Oman. At that time, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on May 14, denounced the attack and termed it "unacceptable" without naming the parties involved in the attack.

"The attack on an Indian-flagged ship off the coast of Oman yesterday is unacceptable and we deplore the fact that commercial shipping and civilian mariners continue to be targeted," the statement said.

Further, MEA said India reiterates that targeting commercial shipping and endangering innocent civilian crew members, or otherwise impeding freedom of navigation and commerce, should be avoided.
