An Indian High Commission official in Chattogram, also known as  Chittagong, was found dead inside the Indian mission premises this morning on Tuesday, bdnews24.com has reported. The incident has been investigated by Bangladeshi authorities.

The victim was identified as Narendra, 38, a protocol assistant at the Indian mission, originally from Chandigarh in India. The victim's body was found within the Indian Assistant High Commission premises on Zakir Hossain Road in Khulshi of the Chattogram-based outlet.

Body Recovered From Old Visa Centre Building

As per the police officials, the body was recovered from near the bathroom door of a data entry room situated on the second floor of the old visa centre building within the mission complex.

“We primarily suspect that the official died while going to the bathroom at some point during the night,” Chattogram Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner for Public Relations Aminur Rashid told bdnews24.com

Initial investigation by police indicates that a cardiac arrest might be responsible; officials have confirmed that the precise cause of death can be determined only after conducting a postmortem. The body was moved to the Chattogram Medical College Hospital morgue after formal procedures involving a foreign citizen had been completed.

Autopsy Awaited

A full-scale investigation into the incident is underway, and the ultimate finding hinges on the autopsy report.

The Indian mission in Chittagong plays an important role in handling consular affairs and maintaining regional diplomatic coordination in southeastern Bangladesh. Authorities from both sides are expected to remain in contact as the investigation progresses.
