US President Donald Trump asked countries affected by the closure of the Strait of Hormuz due to the Iranian war to "build up some delayed courage, go to the Strait, and get their own oil." Trump's threats came after several European nations and the UK ignored his calls to send their armies to open the Strait of Hormuz, which is one of the most important shipping routes.
"All of those countries that can't get jet fuel because of the Strait of Hormuz, like the United Kingdom, which refused to get involved in the decapitation of Iran, I have a suggestion for you: Number 1, buy from the US, we have plenty, and Number 2, build up some delayed courage, go to the Strait, and just TAKE IT," Trump wrote in a Truthsocial post.

"You'll have to start learning how to fight for yourself; the USA won't be there to help you anymore, just like you weren't there for us. Iran has been, essentially, decimated. The hard part is done. Go get your own oil," he added.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the most critical waterways in the world for transporting oil and gas. Approximately 20 per cent of global oil and natural gas needs are delivered via the Strait. After longstanding tensions between the US, Israel and Iran, the Strait has been blocked due to retaliatory actions from Iran resulting from the US-Israeli airstrikes.
President Trump had earlier called for all countries and nations affected by the blockade of the Strait to cooperate to develop solutions to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, where many tankers carrying oil and natural gas have been attacked by Iranian missiles.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer reasserted that Britain would not become embroiled in the current conflict involving Iran. He has ruled out sending troops and has held a cautious position, despite pressure to do so by Washington.
Italy also recently denied the US request to use the Sigonella Air Base in Sicily for operations related to the Iran war. The Italian government cited a lack of valid authorisations and legal procedures as reasons for its decision.
Earlier this month, Spain also took a strong position against the Iran conflict and condemned the strikes by the US and Israel as "unjustified and dangerous." Spain refused to grant joint military bases access to the country's airspace and subsequently blocked the US military aircraft from operating out of Spanish airspace.
