Fresh releases from the US Justice Department’s Epstein-related files have reignited a long-running conspiracy theory falsely claiming that President Joe Biden was replaced by a body double, an allegation previously amplified by US President Donald Trump and widely circulated in right-wing online spaces.

A document included in the latest tranche of Epstein files contains an extreme and unsubstantiated claim alleging that Biden was shot and killed in 2019 and later replaced by an actor wearing a mask or by a cloned entity. The allegation appears within an unverified submission embedded in a broader dump of raw investigative material released under the Epstein Files Transparency Act.

According to Azernews, the claim appears in emails forwarded to an FBI agent in April 2021 from a redacted source. While the identities of both the sender and recipient were withheld, the content appears to have originated from a former Estimote associate. The messages accuse the recipient of being part of an “Epstein-like cabal” involved in child abuse and trafficking.

Conspiracy Narratives And No Supporting Evidence

Labelled with reference codes EFTA00173266 to EFTA00173273, the emails, sent by an individual identifying himself as “Charles”, contain profane language and advance conspiracy theories involving executions, secret tribunals and quantum technologies. They claim the “real” Biden was executed by firing squad and replaced by a masked actor or clone, citing supposed changes in his jawline and stature. No evidence is offered to support these assertions.

Trump Previously Amplified Similar Claims

The theory has circulated online since Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign. In mid-2025, Donald Trump reshared a post from a follower claiming, “There is no #JoeBiden, executed in 2020,” and alleging the use of clones and robotic doubles. US authorities have never indicated that such claims are credible.

The Department of Justice has repeatedly emphasised that the Epstein-related releases consist of unfiltered material, including tips, emails, raw records and third-party submissions. Officials have stressed that publication of the documents does not constitute confirmation or endorsement of the statements they contain.

The Epstein Files Transparency Act, enacted in 2024, required the disclosure of previously withheld records from investigations into Jeffrey Epstein, who died by suicide in 2019 while facing federal sex trafficking charges. The most recent batch, released on January 31, 2026, includes thousands of communications, photos and videos, alongside numerous unverified allegations.
