Indian Oil Corporation and Adani Total Gas Limited have expanded their city gas infrastructure with the launch of two new online CNG pumps in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, which will start operating from Monday. The move is expected to ease pressure on the existing 14 offline CNG pumps across the district, where drivers often wait in long queues for refuelling.

The two new online CNG facilities will be operational at Paras Filling Station near Quarsi Eta Toll Plaza in Engineering Colony and at the Indian Oil Corporation-owned pump on Ramghat Kalyan Marg. According to company officials, the trial runs at these stations have been successful. Online CNG services had earlier commenced at Vikram Automobile in Jawan Tezpur last year.
In the last week of March, online CNG will also become available at the Indian Oil Gas Badwal filling station in Gabhana, where only offline CNG is currently supplied.
Investment and Expansion Plan
The development is part of a larger investment commitment of Rs 2,800 crore announced by the Adani Group at the state’s first investor summit. The project aims to expand piped natural gas (PNG) and CNG pipeline infrastructure across parts of Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Hathras, and Mathura districts.
Four years ago, CNG and PNG services were first introduced in Bulandshahr district. Later, CNG supply through mobile capsules was started at 14 pumps in Aligarh, offering a cheaper and cleaner alternative to petrol and diesel.
More Pumps to Go Online
By the end of this year, online CNG is expected to be available at three to four additional pumps. The Naurangirai filling station in Naurangabad will be among the next to start the service. Offline CNG will also be made available at Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited’s Durga filling station in Bauner and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited’s pump in Panaithi.
PNG Services Expand in City
Alongside CNG expansion, PNG services have already been launched in several residential areas of the city. The company has also announced that PNG supply will soon begin in the Tala Nagari industrial area, further strengthening the district’s gas distribution network.
How Does An Online CNG Pump Provide Gas To Customers?
1. The station is directly linked to a high-pressure natural gas pipeline network, ensuring uninterrupted gas supply.
2. Natural gas received at relatively lower pressure is compressed up to around 250 bar using heavy-duty compressors to increase storage capacity in vehicle cylinders.
3. After compression, the high-pressure gas is supplied to dispensing units (pumps) and delivered directly into the customer’s vehicle.
4. These stations offer continuous and reliable supply, along with faster refuelling compared to “daughter booster” stations that depend on transported gas.
5. They are generally set up in high-demand areas and form a key part of the City Gas Distribution (CGD) network.
