Lucknow Bus accident: At least six people were injured while 16 others were injured after a double-decker bus travelling from Ludhiana, Punjab, to Bihar's Darbhanga, overturned on the Purvanchal Expressway on Monday.

According to the information, the accident took place at around 3:30 pm when the bus lost control and overturned near Khema Kheda village in Gosaiganj, reportedly due to high speed.

The incident caused panic at the scene, after which, people passing by the accident site informed the police.

Soon, Gosaiganj police arrived at the scene and sent the injured to the local community health centre with the help of an ambulance. The teams from the police and the local administration started relief and rescue operations.

According to a report by Jagran.com, eyewitnesses reported that the accident took place after the driver allegedly fell asleep.

Upon receiving information about the accident, Lucknow District Magistrate Vishakh and Police Commissioner Amarendra Sengar arrived at the Gosaiganj Community Health Centre. 

Both officers, along with police and administrative teams, are gathering information about the injured.

Students heading for the board exams met with accident

In a separate accident in UP's Lakhimpur Kheri, a 17-year-old student was killed while six others were injured on Monday, after their van collided head-on with a truck coming from the opposite direction in Padhuva area, police said.

The victim students were board exam candidates and were on their way to the examination centre to appear for the exams.

The police identified the deceased as Chanchal of Belpurwa village in the Shardanagar area. The injured were rushed to the hospital, where their condition was reported to be stable, they said.

Padhuva police station in-charge Vivek Upadhayay, along with his team, rushed to the spot on the Dhakherwa-Dhaurahra road and sent the injured to the district hospital.
