The development of a 45-metre-wide road on both sides of the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion by serving as a parallel backup corridor. While a major portion of the road has already been constructed, work remains incomplete due to land gaps at three locations.
Officials said there are blockages of 74 metres, 75 metres and 81.5 metres between Sectors 163 and 167, spanning around 2.5 acres. These interruptions have rendered the corridor unusable end-to-end, forcing residents of Sectors 150, 151, 152, 153, 155, 163, 167, 135 and 168 to rely on the main expressway, thereby adding to traffic congestion.
Noida Authority CEO Krishna Karunesh said a meeting has been held with administrative officials to resolve the issue. He added that funds for land acquisition have already been deposited with the district administration and that efforts are underway to clear the remaining patches to make the road fully operational.
With increasing traffic pressure from the DND Flyway, Chilla border, Kalindi Kunj and internal sector roads, along with the expected surge following the operationalisation of the upcoming airport, officials have stressed the urgent need for a parallel route.
The authority has prioritised strengthening and operationalising the 45-metre sector road to enable traffic diversion when required. In the long term, a proposal for a parallel expressway remains under consideration, subject to approvals from the state and central governments.
Until then, the sector road is expected to function as a crucial “Plan-B corridor” and a lifeline for commuters along the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway.
