WWE Saturday night main event, December 14, 2025: The 17-time world champion is all set to be seen in action for one last time as he will lock horns with Gunther in his retirement match on WWE Saturday Night Live. It will be the 42nd episode of WWE's television special Saturday Night's Main Event, but it's also the first time that the NXT wrestlers will be a part of this.

Gunther became John Cena's last opponent when he participated in a tournament held between RAW and SmackDown, where he had beaten LA Knight in the summit clash. The event will consist of matches between NXT wrestlers and members of WWE, which also includes one wrestler from TNA. It's the first time that an episode won't have a championship defence after 2008.

John Cena created history this year after defeating Cody Rhodes in the WrestleMania main event. After this, he had become the 17-time world champion, also surpassing Ric Flair's tally. He was the title holder for three months, but then Rhodes defeated him in SummerSlam's main event. He had also lifted the Intercontinental Championship title post-beating Dominik Mysterio in RAW. But then he lost to the same opponent in Survivor Series.
