Met Gala 2026: On Monday, May 4, 2026, the Met Gala will return to commemorate the opening of the spring exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Formally known as the Costume Institute Benefit, the annual fundraiser will once again set the standard for international fashion discussions. The public will be able to view the show in the recently opened Condé Nast Galleries from May 10, 2026, to January 10, 2027. Saint Laurent, Condé Nast, and Jeff Bezos, with Lauren Sánchez Bezos, are sponsors this year.
Met Gala 2026 theme was formally announced by the Metropolitan Museum of Art as Costume Art. This concept examines the deep connection between fine art and fashion, emphasising the crucial role that the dressed body plays in artistic expression. The theme, curated by Andrew Bolton, the Costume Institute's curator, seeks to elevate fashion beyond conventional boundaries to the status of art by highlighting how clothing and the human body are entwined across history and society.
What To Expect From Met Gala 2026?
Nearly 200 pieces of art will be on display alongside about 200 outfits and accessories. From prehistoric items to modern fashion, the works span a vast amount of time. There are three primary groups throughout the exhibition. The first examines figures, such as the nude form, that are frequently shown in art. The second draws attention to bodies that are often disregarded, such as aged, pregnant, or crippled bodies. Anatomical studies and other universal forms are the subject of the third.
The Costume Institute's legacy of fusing fashion and art in innovative ways will be carried forward at the 2026 Met Gala. The topic aligns with earlier influential exhibitions, such as last year's 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,' which highlighted Black American menswear and fashion.
The museum's Costume Institute, which does not receive funding from the broader institution, continues to rely heavily on the event for fundraising. According to reports, tickets cost about $75,000. Last year's event raised $31 million for purchases and exhibitions.

Met Gala 2026 Dress Code
The dress code for attendees is currently under wraps. Andrew Bolton noted that although the final rules for 2026 would be made public closer to the event, last year's exhibition and dress code were closely related. The red carpet may favour sculptural ensembles, form-fitting forms, and sheer or skin-focused clothing due to the emphasis on the body. Saint Laurent is a major sponsor, so their silhouettes might take centre stage.
