A 30-year-old man allegedly stabbed his 29-year-old former wife to death in Hyderabad, repeatedly attacking her on the head, police said. While some family members claimed the woman was three months pregnant, officials said this has not yet been confirmed and the post-mortem report is awaited.

According to an NDTV report, both the accused and the victim were IT company employees. The man had been working in Canada but returned to India following his mother’s death. The couple married in 2022 in India and later moved to Canada, where the woman joined him. However, differences reportedly arose between them, prompting her to return to India. She subsequently filed a domestic violence case against him in Maharashtra. The couple divorced in 2024, and the woman remarried in April 2025.

Police said a look-out circular had been issued against the man in connection with the domestic violence case, and his passport was suspended, preventing him from returning to Canada. He had been unemployed and was staying at his parents’ house in Telangana’s Peddapalli district since March 2025. Officials said the accused blamed his ex-wife for the mental distress faced by him and his family and even held her responsible for his mother’s death.

How The Accused Executed The Murder?

Investigators said the man allegedly planned the murder and traced her address through social media. He arrived in Hyderabad two months ago and stayed in a hostel. “He had also conducted reconnaissance of the victim’s apartment recently,” a police official said.

On Wednesday, he reportedly went to her apartment carrying a bag containing two knives, a drilling machine, and a five-litre petrol can. He allegedly forced his way into her residence, entered the room where she was present, and locked it from the inside before stabbing her multiple times, killing her on the spot.

The woman’s mother-in-law was on the balcony at the time of the incident. After family members alerted the police, officers reached the scene and found that the accused had allegedly poured petrol in the room and locked himself inside the toilet. He threatened to set the room on fire, but police managed to persuade him to surrender. He was later taken into custody.
