Hyderabad: Two young engineering students lost their lives and six others were injured after the SUV they were travelling in crashed into a concrete pylon of an under-construction elevated road in Medipally on early Wednesday morning, police said.
The accident took place while the group was on its way to the Pocharam IT Zone from Boduppal.
Victims Identified
According to a Times Of India report, the deceased have been identified as Sai Varun, 20 and Nikhil, 20, both residents of Wanaparthy. Nikhil was driving the seven-seater vehicle at the time of the crash.
The injured students are Venkat, Rakesh, Yashwant, Satwik, Harshvardhan and Abhinav. All of them study at different engineering colleges in Hyderabad, police added.
How the Accident Occurred
According to Medipally police, the SUV was being driven at a high speed when the driver lost control of the vehicle. The car rammed into the pylon of the elevated roadway, which is currently under construction. The crash occurred at around 2 AM.
Passers-by alerted the police, following which officers rushed to the spot. The injured were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Investigation Underway
Three of the injured students are said to be in serious condition, while the remaining three sustained minor injuries. The bodies of the two deceased were sent to Gandhi Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Police said they are checking whether alcohol consumption played a role in the accident. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for causing death and injuries due to negligence.
