Hyderabad: A five-year-old girl was seriously injured after being attacked by stray dogs in Hyderabad’s Khairatabad area on Tuesday morning. The child, identified as Sharvi, is a UKG student and was crossing a road near her residence when a stray dog suddenly pounced on her.
The attack left the child with severe injuries to her face. CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced, showing the dog biting the girl as she walked along the street.
Passer-by intervenes, child rushed to hospital
According to an Telangana Today report, a motorist passing through the area noticed the child being attacked and stopped his bike to chase the dog away. Hearing her screams, family members rushed to the spot and immediately took her to a private hospital.

The child is currently undergoing treatment at Rainbow Hospital, where doctors are monitoring her condition.
Police said the incident occurred in Srinivasa Nagar, Khairatabad and have noted the details for further action.
The attack comes at a time when reports of large-scale killing of stray dogs have emerged from different parts of Telangana. Animal welfare groups have claimed that hundreds of dogs were allegedly killed in several districts over the past few months.
In Hanamkonda district, around 200 stray dogs were reportedly found dead in Pathipaka village. A complaint was filed by A Goutham, cruelty prevention manager of the Stray Animal Foundation of India, alleging that poisonous injections were used.

Activists allege illegal methods
Animal rights organisations have claimed that more than 1,100 dogs may have been killed across Telangana since December 2025. According to the NGO, similar incidents were reported in Ranga Reddy, Jagtial and Kamareddy districts.
Yacharam village, located about 50 km from Hyderabad, also came under scrutiny after allegations that nearly 100 dogs were killed by villagers.
Activists have criticised authorities for failing to adopt humane methods to address public safety concerns.
