The Xiaomi 18 may not be official for a few more months, but leaks surrounding the company's next flagship smartphone continue to gather pace. The latest information points to a small battery upgrade over its predecessor, with a tipster claiming that Xiaomi is testing the handset with a larger cell while sticking to the compact form factor that has been rumoured previously.

Xiaomi 18 Could Pack a 7,200mAh Battery

According to tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo, the current engineering prototype of the Xiaomi 18 is equipped with a 7,200mAh battery. The claim aligns with an earlier leak from the same source, which suggested Xiaomi was looking to increase the battery capacity without making the phone noticeably bigger.

If the information proves accurate, the Xiaomi 18 would gain a 200mAh bump over the Xiaomi 17, which houses a 7,000mAh battery. While the increase may appear modest, it would still be notable for a device that is expected to retain a relatively compact footprint. Meanwhile, other smartphone brands are reportedly experimenting with much larger batteries, including 8,000mAh and even 10,000mAh cells.

Compact Design Expected to Continue

Previous leaks suggest Xiaomi is not planning a major design overhaul for the standard model. Instead, the Xiaomi 18 is tipped to feature a 6.4-inch display with a 2K resolution, keeping its compact positioning within the flagship segment.

The display is also expected to carry a 19.5:9 aspect ratio, rounded corners and slim bezels on all four sides.

Camera Upgrade Could Be the Bigger Story

Beyond the battery, the camera system may see one of the biggest upgrades in the lineup. Earlier reports from the same tipster claimed that Xiaomi is testing the handset with a 200-megapixel primary rear camera based on a large 1/1.28-inch sensor.

The wider Xiaomi 18 series has also been rumoured to feature a dual 200-megapixel camera setup, although Xiaomi has not confirmed any of these details.

For reference, the current Xiaomi 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max feature triple rear camera systems comprising a 50-megapixel primary sensor, a 50-megapixel telephoto camera and another 50-megapixel sensor.

Launch Timeline

The Xiaomi 18 series is expected to make its debut in China this September, if recent leaks are accurate. The launch would roughly coincide with the timeline followed by the Xiaomi 17 lineup, which was introduced in September 2025.

The previous generation included the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, with starting prices of CNY 4,499 (roughly Rs. 56,000), CNY 4,999 (roughly Rs. 62,300) and CNY 5,999 (roughly Rs. 74,700), respectively.

As with all early leaks, these details are based on engineering prototypes, meaning Xiaomi could still make changes before the smartphone is officially unveiled.
