Xiaomi has officially started teasing the Xiaomi 17 Max ahead of its launch in China later this month. The upcoming smartphone will join the company’s flagship Xiaomi 17 lineup, which already includes the Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, Xiaomi 17 Pro Max, and the top-end Xiaomi 17 Ultra. Going by the teasers and leaks so far, the Xiaomi 17 Max is shaping up to be a bigger, more powerful version of the standard model rather than just a large-screen alternative.
The company shared the first official look of the phone on Weibo, revealing a fresh design language for the Max variant. Unlike the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, which carries a large circular camera module, the Xiaomi 17 Max features a rounded rectangular camera island at the back. Xiaomi has also confirmed that the handset will arrive in black, blue, and white colour options.
One of the biggest highlights is the display. Xiaomi has confirmed that the phone will feature a large 6.9-inch flat screen with noticeably slim bezels. Leaks suggest this could be a 1.5K LTPO panel with support for a 120Hz refresh rate, putting it firmly in flagship territory.
Xiaomi Group President Lu Weibing described the handset as a “fully upgraded” version of the standard Xiaomi 17, hinting that the company is positioning it as more than just a larger-sized smartphone. Pre-reservations for the device have already gone live in China ahead of the official launch event.
Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 And 8,000mAh Battery Expected
As per recent leaks, the Xiaomi 17 Max is expected to run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset. The processor could be paired with LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 4.1 storage for flagship-level performance. Xiaomi is also expected to equip the handset with symmetrical dual stereo speakers, an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint scanner, and a high water resistance rating.
For cameras, the Xiaomi 17 Max is tipped to feature a 200-megapixel Samsung ISOCELL HP-series primary sensor. The setup may also include a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera and a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto lens with support for 3x optical zoom.
Battery could become one of the phone’s biggest talking points. Reports suggest the Xiaomi 17 Max may pack a huge 8,000mAh battery, potentially making it the biggest battery ever seen on a Xiaomi smartphone. The handset is also expected to support 100W wired fast charging and 50W wireless charging with PPS compatibility.
Previous reports have hinted that Xiaomi could place the 17 Max above the standard Xiaomi 17 in terms of pricing, mainly because of its larger display, flagship camera hardware, and significantly bigger battery. The smartphone is expected to debut in China later this month alongside other devices in the Xiaomi 17 series.
