Meta has announced that WhatsApp will no longer be available on some iPhone models, as it has tightened requirements for Apple devices. This change will come later this year, and the company is giving users some time to adapt. From November 30 onwards it would be necessary to have iOS 15.5 and iPadOS 15.5 or higher in order to run WhatsApp.
People who will still be on the previous version will not be able to access WhatsApp unless they go forward with the update. This move forms a part of Meta's periodic practice where it scans what OS versions need to be prioritised for its platforms.
This is not the first time this is happening, as last year Meta did it for Apple devices that were running on an OS older than iOS 15.1, which ended compatibility for iPhone 5s, 6 and 6 Plus.
Although it is being said that this time the update will be less of a hassle, as iPads and iPhones running on iOS 15.1 and iPadOS 15.1 can be easily updated to the next 15.5 OS version and no phone models will be excluded from this update, as was the case with the previous update, users just need to ensure their devices are running on the latest software.
People who own older phones like the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, first-generation iPhone SE, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPad Air 2, and iPad mini 4 can get the latest software, which is iOS 15.8.8 or iPadOS 15.8.8, as this is the latest OS update available for these devices. Not many people will be affected by this update, but this is only for users who have not yet updated their devices and are advised to take action before 30th November to avoid stoppage of services.
