Vivo has started lifting the curtain on its next foldable smartphone, the Vivo X Fold 6, ahead of its official launch in China. While the company is still keeping the launch date under wraps, it has confirmed one major detail: the foldable will debut with a custom MediaTek chipset developed specifically for the device.

The upcoming Vivo X Fold 6 is set to become the first smartphone powered by the new MediaTek Dimensity 9500 Super Edition processor. According to Vivo product manager Han Boxiao, the chip is not simply a rebranded version of the standard Dimensity 9500 found in flagship phones such as the Vivo X300 Pro and Oppo Find X9 Pro. Instead, it has been co-developed by Vivo and MediaTek over nearly two years with a focus on foldable smartphones and AI-driven experiences.
Vivo claims the new chipset brings significant improvements over its predecessor. The company says peak NPU performance has increased by 111 percent, while power consumption has been reduced by 56 percent. The chip is also designed to deliver a more stable on-device AI experience, which is becoming increasingly important as smartphone makers push more AI features directly onto devices.
The custom silicon is said to be optimised for the larger displays found on foldable phones and will power several AI-based features on the X Fold 6. Vivo highlights faster offline speech transcription, quicker AI-generated summaries, and enhanced AI reasoning capabilities within the file manager. Other AI-powered tools, including question-and-answer functions and the company's multitasking-focused Atomic Workbench feature, are also expected to benefit from the upgraded hardware.
The Vivo X Fold 6 has already been confirmed to run OriginOS 6 Fold out of the box. While Vivo is yet to reveal the complete specifications, rumours suggest the device could feature an 8-inch inner folding display paired with a 6.51-inch outer screen.

Battery life could be another major highlight. Leaks indicate the foldable may pack a massive 6,900mAh battery, which would be one of the largest capacities seen in the segment. On the camera front, the Vivo X Fold 6 is tipped to include a 200-megapixel primary sensor alongside a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera.
With Vivo now officially teasing the device, more details about the X Fold 6 are expected to surface in the lead-up to its launch.
