Aadhar Card Virtual ID: Aadhaar Cards have become an indispensable source of our identity these days; whether you want to get a new SIM card or open up a new bank account, this proof of identity is required almost everywhere. Even though this proof of identity serves many purposes, people are usually worried about leaking information and the fact that scammers might use it for malicious intent, like fraud. To be safe from this you can opt for a VID. This VID, or virtual ID, is a 16-digit identification code, and you can use this instead of giving out all your Aadhaar information. Let's dive in and take a look at how this works.
What Is A VID?
VID, or Virtual ID, is a way of keeping your personal Aadhaar info safe; it acts like a cover for your actual Aadhaar card number, as this ID will allow you to use the 16-digit verification number instead of your actual Aadhaar card number, masking it from potential fraud. For instance, if you give your VID for identification purposes in a bank or for a SIM card, the process gets automatically verified with just the VID, and the other party does not receive the real number either, making it easier for the user and difficult for fraudsters to get a hold of your ID.
How To Generate Your Aadhaar VID
Getting a Virtual ID (VID) for your Aadhaar is a simple process and only takes a few steps.
Start by visiting the official UIDAI website at https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/. Once you’re there, log in using your Aadhaar number.
After logging in, head to the dashboard and look for the Generate Virtual ID (VID) option. Click on it, and you’ll be shown a couple of choices. Select Generate ID to proceed.
Once done, your VID will be generated instantly. You’ll see it on the screen, and it will also be sent to your registered mobile number.
One more thing that people should note is that this Virtual ID feature lets you generate as many VIDs as you want, and after you generate a new VID, the previous code will get cancelled.
