The developer originally planned to unveil the project during its REDstreams livestream on Thursday as part of the 10-year anniversary celebration for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Blood and Wine. However, the announcement arrived earlier than expected after details were accidentally leaked through the Red Launcher.
The upcoming expansion is titled The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past and will once again put players in the boots of Geralt of Rivia. CD Projekt Red confirmed that the DLC is being co-developed alongside Fool’s Theory, the studio known for The Thaumaturge.
While story details remain under wraps, the expansion promises an entirely new adventure for Geralt. The title itself hints at a possible journey into the past, leading to speculation that the DLC could explore events that happened before the main story of The Witcher 3.
“What can I say… this is one of those stories I personally keep very close to my heart, and I genuinely can't wait for you to experience it,” said Sebastian Kalemba, vice president and game director at CD Projekt Red. “The teams on both sides have been pouring an incredible amount of passion into it, and I'm really excited for you to return to the Path with Geralt once more.”
Songs of the Past will become the third major expansion for The Witcher 3 following Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, which launched in 2015 and 2016. The new DLC is scheduled to arrive in 2026 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series S/X, with more information expected later in summer 2026.
Alongside the announcement, CD Projekt Red also revealed changes to the game’s minimum PC system requirements. The studio said the update is aimed at maintaining better performance and compatibility going forward.
Windows 11 will now become the minimum required operating system for both The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 after Microsoft ended support for Windows 10. The studio also confirmed that HDD storage will no longer be supported, meaning players will need an SSD to run the game and its future expansion.
“These minimum requirements reflect how hardware capabilities and software usage have evolved since we last changed the system requirements,” the company said on its support page.
Apart from the new DLC, CD Projekt Red is also actively working on The Witcher 4, which is reportedly targeting a 2027 release window. The upcoming title is expected to feature Ciri as the main protagonist. The studio is also developing a full remake of the original Witcher game.
