Sony held its State of Play showcase recently on June 2, 2026, and in its latest edition came some of the biggest announcements PS5 gamers have been looking forward to. The biggest reveals here, according to me as a gamer myself, were Marvel's Wolverine and my personal favourite God of War: Laufey, where a bit of story and gameplay was also revealed, and I have to say I am quite excited for this latest edition of God of War.

Apart from that, other major titles that made their appearances were Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, which is another classic from 1996 that will be reimagined. Until Dawn 2, Control Resonant, and Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve also made their appearance during the showcase. Apart from that, several other trailers for PS5 titles also came to the fore, so let's take a deeper dive into what was showcased during the event, the Video for the event has been attached for you to catchup.

God of War: Laufey

So I'll begin with my personal favourite as far as the whole series is concerned, from Sony and Santa Monica Studio. This time the main stage has been taken by Faye, Kratos' wife that we saw in the beginning of both games, first during her death scene and in Ragnarök while Kratos was having a dream. This new edition starts right after her death and takes her to an afterlife realm, Everywhen, that is inhabited by gods and creatures that cross over from multiple mythologies. The story goes into a tangent that explores what happens to the fate of gods after death, where Faye is accompanied by companions Phranque and Rue, and the villains are Sekhmet and Begtse, while this was probably just a gist, but more is yet to come.

Now let's focus on combat. Here there were some similar elements as well as some new ones; the combat is definitely much smoother, and Faye's movement is far less rigid than Kratos's. It seems like the studio is also focusing much more on aerial combat, something the fans are quite aware of from the previous bloodthirsty Kratos days from the Greek era, while also retaining a strong narrative and exploration.

Marvel's Wolverine

Insomniac Games finally shared an extended look at Marvel's Wolverine, giving fans a better idea of what to expect from the highly anticipated action-adventure title. Set in an original story, the game follows Logan as he tracks down the Reavers, a dangerous mercenary group that has been capturing mutants.

The new footage showcased brutal combat built around Wolverine's claws, stealth takedowns and a Rage system that enhances both healing and offensive abilities. Jean Grey also makes an appearance, while Team X looks set to play a major role in the story. Marvel's Wolverine launches exclusively on PlayStation 5 on September 15, 2026, with pre-orders already underway.

Doctor Doom Brings A Villain-Focused Team To Marvel: Tokon

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls also received a significant update. Arc System Works revealed the Knights of Doom, a new team built around some of Marvel's most iconic villains. Doctor Doom leads the lineup alongside Magneto, Green Goblin and Carnage.

The developers also introduced a nighttime version of Marvel's New York as the team's home arena. Meanwhile, the Champion of the Universe was unveiled as the game's central antagonist, launching a tournament that puts Earth's fate on the line. Players will get an early hands-on experience with Magneto and the new stage at Evo 2026.

Stuntman Returns With A Hollywood Twist

Developer PowerSnake is reviving the spirit of the classic Stuntman franchise with Stuntman: Hollywood. The arcade driving game puts players behind the wheel as professional stunt performers working on blockbuster movie productions.

The levels are inspired by well-known entertainment franchises, including Fast & Furious, Back to the Future, Knight Rider, Miami Vice and Death Race. Players will be tasked with pulling off dangerous jumps, drifting through obstacles and surviving high-speed action sequences while chasing top ratings.

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis

Lara Croft is heading back to where it all began. Crystal Dynamics announced Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, a modern reimagining of the original 1996 Tomb Raider adventure.

Built using Unreal Engine 5 and co-developed with Flying Wild Hog, the remake revisits classic locations such as Peru's Lost Valley and the ruins of Greece with modern visuals and expanded level design. Exploration, combat and puzzle-solving have all been updated while maintaining the spirit of the original adventure. The game is scheduled to launch on February 12, 2027.

Horror Fans Have Plenty To Look Forward To

Several horror titles made an appearance during the showcase, led by Until Dawn 2. The sequel introduces a fresh standalone story focused on a group of paranormal content creators whose fake ghost-hunting adventures quickly turn into a fight for survival on a remote tropical island.

Konami also shared a new look at Silent Hill: Townfall. The trailer introduced a new character named Zoe, who communicates with protagonist Simon through a mysterious CRTV device while terrifying creatures stalk him through the Otherworld.

Meanwhile, The Lost Wild continues to offer a unique take on survival horror. Instead of treating dinosaurs as traditional enemies, the game presents them as unpredictable wild animals. Players must rely on stealth, observation and environmental awareness to stay alive.

Another horror title, ILL, impressed viewers with its disturbing creature designs, realistic physics system and gruesome combat mechanics that focus heavily on dismemberment and body horror.

Kemuri

Tokyo-based studio Unseen provided a fresh look at Kemuri, an action-adventure game set inside a supernatural city where life and death exist side by side. Players will explore a vertically designed world while battling paranormal threats either alone or with up to two additional players in online co-op.

Another unexpected reveal came from Mintrocket. Known for Dave the Diver, the studio announced Bancho the Chef, a standalone prequel following Bancho's journey across Asia as he learns cooking techniques and works toward becoming a master chef. The game combines cooking mechanics, RPG progression and adventure gameplay within a fully 3D world.

Action And RPG Fans Get Major Updates

Remedy Entertainment officially announced that Control Resonant will launch on September 24. Unlike the original game, which centred on Jesse Faden, the sequel shifts the spotlight to her brother Dylan as he searches for Jesse while confronting a growing paranormal threat.

Capcom also confirmed a September 25 release date for Onimusha: Way of the Sword. Alongside the announcement, the company released a demo showcasing the game's combat system, including parries, deflections, counterattacks and supernatural abilities.

Phantom Blade Zero appeared briefly during the presentation as well. Developer S-Game confirmed that the action RPG will receive a dedicated showcase later this year ahead of its October 29 release.

Moon Studios also provided an update on No Rest for the Wicked. The action RPG is set to arrive on PlayStation 5 this October with more than 100 hours of content, expanded regions, new bosses and a redesigned class system.

Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve and Dune Add More Firepower To The Lineup

Bandai Namco confirmed that Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve will launch on October 2, 2026. Returning to the Strangereal universe, the story follows Joker Squadron as they battle to reclaim the occupied capital city of Theve following an invasion.

The game promises large-scale aerial combat, ground attacks, giant superweapon encounters and more than 30 aircraft for players to master.

Dune: Awakening is also making its way to PlayStation 5 on September 22. The open-world survival game arrives with a new single-player mode, an additional story chapter and several gameplay improvements.

Marathon Returns With New Content

Bungie used the showcase to announce Season 2 of Marathon. The new season introduces fresh content and a seasonal reset while also opening the game to a wider audience through an Open Play Week event.

Running from June 2 to June 9, the event allows players to jump into Marathon's extraction-based PvP and PvE gameplay without requiring a PlayStation Plus subscription.

Classic Franchises Make A Comeback

Long-time fans of Dynasty Warriors have something new to look forward to. A remastered collection featuring Dynasty Warriors 3 and Dynasty Warriors 3: Xtreme Legends will launch on October 1 for PlayStation 5.

Ubisoft is also bringing back one of its most beloved platformers with Rayman Legends Retold. The reimagined version adds new story content, updated gameplay systems, expanded music stages and support for four-player local co-op.

PlayStation Plus Subscribers Get New Additions

Sony wrapped up the presentation with several PlayStation Plus announcements. RuneScape: Dragonwilds will join the Game Catalogue as a day-one release, giving subscribers access to the open-world survival experience at launch.

Premium members can also look forward to several classic titles arriving over the coming months, including Gitaroo Man later this month, Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy in July and Onimusha: Dawn of Dreams in August.
