Sony is gearing up for its next smartphone launch, and this one is already creating curiosity. The company has confirmed that a new Xperia device is arriving next week, but interestingly, it has not revealed the name yet.

What it has revealed, though, is just enough to get people talking.

Launch Set For May 13

Sony announced that it will host a launch event in Japan on May 13 at 11 AM local time, which is 7:30 PM IST. The teaser carries the line “Next ONE is coming”, making it clear that this phone will belong to the Xperia 1 series.

 

That narrows things down, but does not confirm the exact model.

Design Tease Hints At Xperia 1 VIII

The teaser video and the newly live microsite both point towards a triple rear camera setup. More importantly, the layout of these cameras stands out.

The lenses appear to be arranged in an inverted L shaped format, which matches recent leaks of the Sony Xperia 1 VIII. That is where things start to connect.

While Sony has not officially named the device, all signs are pointing in that direction.

Listing Leak Reveals More

The same rumoured Xperia 1 VIII was recently spotted on Amazon Germany, and that listing gave away quite a bit.

According to the leak, the phone could go on sale in Europe starting June 26. It is expected to come in Garnet Red, Graphite Black, and Lolite Silver colour options.

Pricing details were also mentioned, though there is a catch. The stated price of EUR 1,868.99 and GBP 1,728 apparently comes with Sony WH-1000XM6 earphones, thus increasing the total expenses.

Expected Specifications

From the standpoint of hardware, the phone is believed to come with a 6.5 inches Full HD+ OLED screen at 120 Hz.

The three-lens camera is anticipated to comprise:

-A main lens with a 24mm focal length

-An ultrawide lens

-A telephoto camera

This configuration is in keeping with the tradition set by Sony in its premium Xperia series.

What Comes Next

At this point, Sony is clearly holding back the final reveal for the launch event. The branding, final specs, and exact positioning will likely be confirmed on May 13.

Until then, the teaser strategy is doing its job. It is giving just enough detail to spark interest without confirming everything.

If the leaks hold true, this could be the next big upgrade in Sony’s Xperia 1 series, stepping in as the successor to last year’s Xperia 1 VII.
