Google had recently introduced a feature we are all familiar with, Circle to Search, that helps you search right from any source or the screen wherever the user is at that moment; it has slowly become one of the most used AI-powered features by the public. Now Google might be coming out with another such feature with a similar experience in Gemini in Chrome, and it is being dubbed "Select from Screen".

With this new feature users can quickly select and attach content available on-screen to Gemini prompts. Now instead of tediously entering each and every detail one by one manually, users can just select a part of the screen in front of them and paste it directly on Gemini for further assistance. The said tool is a part of Chrome version 149.

In the support page for updating Gemini in Google, the company lays down details of the new 'Select from Screen' feature. To access this feature, you just need to start by clicking "Ask Gemini" on Chrome for desktop. This new tool acts a lot like Circle to Search, like on your smartphones, and users can select specific parts on the screen available in front of them and simply ask Gemini about them.

According to Google, Select from Screen is designed to make it easier to get contextual help from Gemini. Users can highlight specific elements on a webpage, whether it's comparing different running shoes, seeking a better understanding of a diagram, requesting design suggestions for a section of a page, or turning a rough concept into a more developed idea.

To use Select from Screen,

- Open Chrome on your computer.

- Click the Ask Gemini button at the top of the browser window.

- Select the plus (+) icon to open the Add menu.

- Choose 'Select' from the screen.

- Draw a box around the section of the webpage you want Gemini to analyse.

- Type your question or request in the text box.

- Press Esc to exit selection mode.

Users will also have the ability to resize and reposition the selected area by adjusting the edges by dragging them or moving the box in its entirety.

Users who have the latest version of Chrome might need to restart the browser once to gain access to this latest feature by Google. To check the latest update, just do the following: Click on the three-dot menu > Settings > About Chrome.
